Travel
Balmerino is not well served by public transport or local taxi firms!
Nearest train stations are Dundee or Cupar, 20 minutes drive.
The main driving route is via the A92, follow the signs for Balmerino Abbey.
The Venues
Balmerino Abbey is a historic ruined cistercian monastery dating back to 1229; it is a National Trust property who have kindly given us permission to be married there. It is an entirely outdoor space but the ground is well maintained. There are a few steps up to the main area.
The marquee will be set up almost opposite The Abbey, in a field behind our home. Access to the marquee is across a very quiet road, and there will be a lit walk way with a couple of steps up into the marquee.
Both locations are accessible for our guests but please let us know if you have specific requirements or concerns.
Travel
Balmerino is not served by any public transport. It is around a 20 minute drive from Dundee, the main transport hub where pre-booked and on street taxis are available.
We are hoping to be able to arrange return journeys within the local area; please let us know if you would like us to help to arrange transport back to your accommodation, or for any onward travel.
Parking within the village is possible but may get a little busy; to help us ensure there is adequate parking, we would be grateful if you could let us know if you need a space for your car.
Other advice
We are hoping to be blessed with sunshine of course, but will be very happy whatever the weather - so please come prepared for all weather eventualities. There will be plenty of space to store bags with extra layers, waterpoofs and some flat shoes for the ceilidh. If the weather is forecast to be terrible, we will put in place a contingency plan and will let you all know.
We hope you will feel well catered for; we are looking to forward to a BBQ during the day, and in the evening snacks and supplies will be provided. A cash only bar will be serving drinks; so please do remember to bring cash!
Balmerino is a beautiful, historic village which we are extremely grateful to call home - it is tucked away from many of the conveniences of towns - with the nearest access to shops and banks a 20 minute drive away; please keep this in mind when planning your visit in case there is anything that you may need, or want to bring, to make your day with us as enjoyable as possible.
We will both be happy to help our guests arrange travel, accommodation or anything else; please do feel free to get in touch with us at any time.
